Who Is Responsible For Encouraging Us?

In this modern age of social media I see a lot of post about lack of encouragement and support. I thought this would be a good time to share on encouragement as we must learn how to be the biggest encouragers of ourselves.

I recently shared this as a comment on a blog post:

“Encouragement must always start within. It’s great to have others cheering us on and supporting us but we must be our own cheerleader cheering the loudest FIRST!”

Let’s define encouragement so we’re on the same page.
Encouragement is: the action of giving someone support, confidence, or hope.

You are someone!

You are capable and qualified to give yourself support, confidence and hope.
Society seems to condition us to look for those things only from external sources like other people, books, coaches, family etc. Don’t misunderstand we need each other. We need love and connectivity and community and oneness. We’re supposed to offer these things to each other, but if it’s not there God designed us to be progressive and rise above it.

We have to understand that we can move forward if we don’t become co-dependent on getting encouragement from other sources and allow Christ in us to be our primary encouragement.

The LOUDEST cheerleader in your life is GOD. When you let other voices drown his cheers and encouragement out you are your own enemy. Yes, it’s a choice to not let that happen. You can make the decision to allow his voice to be the loudest or you can decide to allow your own thoughts and the voice of others to ring louder in you than His voice.

See how that works?

Christ is the primary encourager.
We come into agreement with what Christ says and wants for us.
Others can agree or disagree because Me + Christ are majority.

Encourage yourself. You are somebody!
